About Landscaping Design

The Definition of Landscaping Design

The definition of landscaping design is a compartment of landscape architecture. Landscaping design is somewhat different to traditional garden design, landscaping designs are more corporate and an individual contract is set for a contractor to finish the initial installation although it can be constructed by homeowners.
Residential Landscape

Landscaping designs are rated on a larger scale which means they take up more space than the small garden area of the home. A landscaping design will consists of many other properties such as; trees, flowers, patios, pavers, retaining walls and pool areas unlike garden areas which simply contain flowers. Gardens areas too can be part of a landscaping design.

Landscaping Design Elements

You may be considering updating your landscaping design or building a new one. This can be done by hiring a landscaping design specialist or you and your family may want to design your own landscaping. There are 5 main design elements which you must always consider. They include:

  1. Color
  2. Line
  3. Form
  4. Texture
  5. Scale

Color

Landscape Color The first design element being color is most important throughout landscaping design. If colors do not match then you may end up with a rainbow throughout your landscaping which may sound nice but look horrific. Colors throughout landscaping should be kept simple and elegant. Flowers play a big part of the color element as they hold majority of the landscaping color. You should choose colors which you think will blend in and compliment on and other. You should also consider the color scheme of your home and paved areas throughout your landscaping.

Line

Line is generally described as a visual element. The human eye determines what is in line and what is not line. For example; you may have considered placing to plants together beside a light post. The plants may only be small. When this is seen by the human eye it creates you to look straight at the light post not at the beauty of the plants. You should place larger plants beside the light posts to make them the main attraction of your landscaping design not the light post.

Form

The 3 rd element is form. Form throughout landscaping design is important especially for the placement of plants and flowers. You should place plants and flowers in areas where they will create stunning features and also where they are most suited either in the sun or shade. In most cases people tend to place plants in order of their size but this is not always necessary for the form of the landscaping design.

Texture

Landscape Texture The element of texture throughout landscaping design is predominating. Consistency with form and texture will help create the perfect landscaping design. The texture of your landscaping can be determined by the materials you are using. Bushy plants should be placed beside roses gardens, blooming flowers should be placed in dull areas where it’s dark and most importantly try to match up the textures of your plants with the textures of the masonry materials which will be featured throughout your landscaping design.

Scale

The element of scale is making sure the landscape overall design is in proportion. This is why it is important to plan ahead and on paper before you begin to installing you’re freshly thought of landscaping design. One example of a landscaping design which may not be in scale is a large retaining wall built in the front of a home being 6 foot high surrounded by pretty flowers and trees may compliment a larger double storied home whilst it will make a smaller home be unseen and the main feature will be this large wall.
