Landscape Equipment - Gravel Screener

About Gravel Screeners

Introduction

Gravel Screener A gravel screener is used in the landscaping industry for the purpose of separating sand and aggregates from gravel and also to water gravel during the separating cycle. Gravel screeners also help to crush gravel and prepare it for applications on driveways and roads. Gravel screeners are generally large industrial machines which are powered by a turbo diesel engine. But there are other alternatives especially where space is restricted.

The other alternative is polyethylene wire messed mats. This type of screening gravel process is generally suited to small loads of gravel which its intended use is private or residential. The mesh acts like a screener for the gravel but it will not separate the gravel to similar sizes.

 How a Gravel Screener Works

Firstly if a contractor working on your farm, residential or business property is digging holes or excavating they will certainly use a gravel screener. A gravel screener works in the following steps:

  1. Typically a gravel screener is nicknamed a grizzly for the reason being its appearance of 2 parallel bars and a hopper. Once a hole or excavation process has been completed a loader will empty all the dug out gravel and store it in the gravel screener’s hopper.
  2. The hopper will transport the gravel through to vibrating scalping screens by using gravity, conveyors, pumps or elevators depending on the gravel screener type.
  3. The scalping screens will then determine and separate the large gravel stone form the small gravel stones. Smaller gravel stones are more marketable then larger boulders because they can be further used on asphalt driveway and road applications. They can also be implemented into a concrete mixture.
  4. In most cases once the gravel is sized accordingly it gets put through a crusher who further decreases the size of the gravel. Once again once the gravel is crushed it is put through the screener and size determined once again.
  5. Rotating trommel screens located on the gravel screener then begins to spray water to wash and soak the gravel free of dirt, debris and grime.
  6. Once the gravel is screened it is placed into stock piles and either used immediately by the landscaping contractor or it is transported to storage bins and stored for further use.

Larger industrial gravel screeners purchase large loads of dirt, gravel and sand from mines and quarries. They then transport the loads to production areas and run them through the gravel screener and sell them off to trades persons and the general public.

Features, Benefits, Options
