Landscape Equipment - Edgers
About Edgers
Introduction
The presentation of the exterior grounds of your residential property is an important part of mowing the lawns and the upkeep to make the place look appealing and presentable at all times. Lawn mowers are a necessity and an essential machinery to have as part of lawn equipment. A lawn edger basically goes hand in hand with a lawn mower. An edger provides a cleaner, easier and faster cut of the grass edges that require cutting which a lawn mower can not provide. The Purposes of an Edger
The most useful purpose of an edger is the grass and weed that can be cut on the edges that a lawn mower can not reach. When you consider the many locations or areas on your property that require edging due to difficult angles and small areas where a lawn mower will not fit you'll find an edger indispensable. Edgers are also used for sculpting bushes and trees for an unusual and unique part of your landscaping garden presentation.
Types of Edgers
There are many types of edgers available that will accommodate your needs and requirements. Select an edger that you think will be more appropriate for your lawn in area size. If you only have small areas that require edging, there is no need to purchase a heavy duty edger which is a lot more expensive than a standard and basic edger. There are gas powered edgers and electrical edgers. Gas powered edgers are ideal for walking around freely as you are not restricted in movement and edging larger areas freely. Electrical edgers can be a bit more restrictive as you need to make sure you have electrical power point to plug into and the electric cord can be hazardous and a safety issue.
A standard electrical or gas powered edger has a nylon string that spins approximately 12,000 i.e. as the cutting component. They are hand held whilst walking slowly along side the area you are edging.
Heavy duty edgers are a push along unit that is more suitable for heavier weeds, grass and larger areas. They consist of stainless steel blades for cutting and edging.
Where to use an Edger on Your Property?
There are many difficult areas on your property that an edger can be useful to finish off your mowed areas for a completed and perfect finishing touch. The following areas such as:
- Sidewalk
- Pathway
- Driveway
- Pool Fence
- Garden Walls
- The perimeter of your yard
- Ornaments and Statues
- Clothes line
- Curbs
The majority of what has been stated above are areas or objects that most residential properties have in place. By using an edger it will make things much easier and more accessible to get to the weed and long grass to edge away and rid of.
Edger Safety
Edger’s should always be operated by an adult or responsible person. They can be quiet dangerous if not operated in the right manner. Boots should be worn when using the edger to protect your feet in case of any miss-haps. Goggles for the protection of your eyes are also a must, as this will avoid any injuries to the eyes during edging as grass clippings or little rocks might become air born. It is highly recommendable that when using an edger, make certain that there are no children in the area playing. This is just another precaution for the safety of the children.
