About Safety Equipment

Introduction

Safety Equipment is essential for a landscape construction site. The most important safety equipment is the personal protection wear. The personal protection required all depends on the nature of the jobs and the possible risks involved in the job. Assess the risks and invest in the appropriate safety equipment that will protect you from injury.

Personal safety equipment provides protection for your face and head. When using chainsaws, blowers etc you will require eye protection and ear plugs. Hard hats are used when cutting or trimming things overhead. When working with hand and power tools, it is recommended to wear long sleeve clothing as well.

Safety Glasses

Safety glasses will protect your eyes from dust; saw dust, dirt and debris when using cutting tools during your landscaping project. Especially when utilizing power tools or saws, particles can come in contact with your eyes which can be very painful and permanent damage can occur. Quality safety glasses feature anti-scratch lenses, deep design allowing prescription glasses to be worn underneath, UV protection, 180 degree view.

Clothing

The clothing worn when you are landscaping is very important. Long sleeve shirt and long pants are recommended to protect your body from harm. This will also protect your skin from the UV sunrays. If you are utilizing power tools, it is definitely recommended to wear protective clothing all over as debris can scatter everywhere when cutting materials.

Hand Gloves

Gloves are essential for working in the backyard to protect your hands from cuts, splinters and bruises etc. When working outdoors flesh cuts and wounds have a high risk of infection if uncovered. Hand gloves will protect your hands when handling plants, and when handling timber materials, which is common to get splinters in your skin. There are different gloves designed to accommodate handling different materials. Some are thicker and durable so protect from certain materials.

Ear Plugs

Ear Plugs If you are using power tools during your landscaping project, it is important to use ear plugs when appropriate to protect your ear drums from serious damage. Not only can extremely loud noise in long time periods cause damage to your ear drums, also dust and debris in the air can easily enter your ear drums and can cause serious problems. You could either use ear plugs or even ear muffs to protect your ears during constructional work.

Work Boots

Invest in a quality pair of work boots for when you are landscaping your property, preferably steel-cap boots. This will protect your feet from accidents in the yard. Most common injury that could occur is dropping large heavy items and landing on your feet. This can be extremely painful and could cause serious damage or even broken bones.

Traffic control is important on a landscaping site. There could be holes in the ground, dangerous tools lying around, unstable soils or rocks, so it is essential to either encourage a traffic control system for the workers to ensure no one is hurt, or put up bright signage or places barricades around danger areas so people are aware of these hazards.

There are other forms of safety equipment that is needed when landscaping your property. Be sure to assess the risks that you may encounter, and consider what is available to protect yourself and others. Make sure that everyone who is involved in the landscaping process is protected from any risks that may occur in what they are doing. If you are unsure, consult a professional. It is better to be safe than sorry.
