About Garden Walls
Introduction
A garden wall is a retaining wall built to enclose a property and used to create a tiered or terraced garden. Not every garden necessarily needs a wall. But garden walls are elegant addition in a home design that helps segregate specific areas, like flower garden, from other parts of the property, thus, enhancing the aesthetics of a garden and creating spaces for other useful purposes.
| It also provides privacy as it surrounds the whole property. A garden wall offers more use of the land as well as the added benefit of creating a unique and elegant look to a landscape design. But environmental concerns like trees surrounding the wall must be taken into account during construction as its roots may affect the foundation of the wall and may cause damage in the future. Just like any other walls, garden wall needs to have a good design, construction, and maintenance to avoid defects like instability, settlement and cracking. |

Types of Garden Walls
Garden walls are mostly made of any of the four major materials: brick, stone, concrete, and tile.
Brick Garden Wall
This is a commonly used material in building a garden wall because it is easy to use and does not require special tools. Brick is a virtually maintenance free material that resists the elements, as well as moisture, fire, and much general wear and tear. It does not lose its coloring with age and has the capacity to insulate against cold and retain heat. Bricks come in many colors and textures, and various qualities that add a warm effect in many gardens.
Stone Garden Wall
 |
A garden wall made up of stone offers a more natural look in the garden. It exudes a sense of warm and adds beauty and grace in a landscape, but it also involves a large dose of backbreaking work. Building a stone wall requires artistic interpretation and geometry to bring about a beautifully crafted wall. It is therefore advisable to find a stonemason to build a stone garden wall. |
Concrete Garden Wall
| Concrete blocks are inexpensive and simple but it has lots of potential for a variety of decorative treatment that can be made in the garden. Concrete makes for great planters and is an excellent material for a garden’s water feature and garden statues. It is also a durable material that can withstand a wide range of garden and landscape conditions. |

Tile Garden Wall
 |
A garden wall made up of tiles presents a neat appearance and uniqueness in design. It is inexpensive, durable, and easy to install. Since tiles have no sharp points or ragged edges, they pose no danger to the hands of gardeners. Its durability lies in the fact that tiles are generally made of fired earthenware with a transparent glaze, producing a smooth, nonporous surface that could withstand the effects of weather. |
Garden Wall Art
| Adding an art to a garden wall is a great way to dress up those garden walls that are often plain and dreary. Garden wall art can be almost anything, from hanging a wall fountain, a copper wall art sculpture, garden lanterns & illuminations, stepping stones, masks/faces, bird feeders, etc. but the best decor for a garden wall is the wall fountain. It brings about an atmosphere of serenity as water flows through the garden wall. Choosing a garden wall art adds character to a garden and reflects one’s personality and taste. |
