Jade Plant Jade plants are tough and simple to grow plants. They generally like the indoors of homes but grow well in outdoor conditions. They like full sun and they should generally be planted in pots filled with potting mix. The plant holds most of its water in its leaves not the soil like most other plants; in this case they do not require loads of watering because they store lots of it.

Watering Jade Plants

Jade plant care is very important to achieve a healthy growing plant. This type of plant is very appealing in any corner of the home, patio, pool area or landscaped garden. Most importantly do not over water the plant as it could flood and cause the plant to end up with root disease and eventually die.

The leaves of the plant should be only watered when they feel dried out or they fold inwards. It is recommended that a jade plant should only be watered once or twice a month during the summer months of the year and once a month during winter times. But plant owners will be able to determine if this is too much or too little.

Jade Plant Soil

Jade plants like to be planted and grow well in soil which is coarse and sandy. Gardeners can choose soils which are sand based or they have the option to make their own according to the jade plants needs. Making soil for a jade plant is simple by using sand, silt and clay based gardening soil and adding more sand and crushed brick. The plants will thrive in these soil conditions.

Re-Potting Jade

Re-Potting Jade

An important part of jade plant care is to determine whether the plant needs to be re potted because it has out grown its original pot. The pot which the plant is going to be re planted in should be only a size larger than the original. The plant should be planted into new soil.

Once the transfer has happened water the plant to ensure the soil is moist. Position the freshly planted jade plant into a corner where it will receive fun sun.

Jade Plant Problems

Good jade plant care will ensure that no problems will occur with the plant. One main problem which occurs frequently with the jade plant is that the roots of the plant do not grow and the tree gets taller and top heavy so it can not support itself. This happens because the plant is receiving too much water. Prune the leaves back and trim off stems and do not water the plant. The roots will grow in search of moisture and the plant will be back to normal. Jade plants love desert conditions so during winter always keep them inside and ensure that during summer they have some fresh air.
