About Garden Ornament Moulds
Some types of garden ornaments are hand crafted by experienced crafts men and women, but the majority of ornaments used in gardens these days are made with molds. The mould of the ornament holds exactly the size, shape and design of what the garden ornament will look like once it’s finished. Garden ornament moulds are designed to hold the material until its sets and are completely and it at the drying stage. For example; if fairy or angelic statues are required to be made then the mould should look exactly like a fairy or angel.
Garden ornament moulds are made from a variety of materials but the most popular mould which is also used by manufactures of ornaments used in gardens is the rubber mould. PVC plastic moulds are also commonly used. The material of the mould needs to be durable and able to withstand the heaviness of the material which is being poured into it. The Molding Process
The molding process of making garden ornaments is very simple and effective, firstly once a design has been chosen then it is time to search for a company or leading retailer who sells them. Craft stores and garden centers are generally popular places where moulds can be found. The material which is preferred then needs to be mixed. Concrete is probably the best material for molding garden ornaments as it can be painted and it dries quickly.
Once the material is mixed then it should be poured into the mould carefully to ensure there are no air holes between the mould and the material. Air holes in the mixed concrete can cause air bubbles and this will show up once the concrete mould is fully set. Once the concrete is poured and the mould is full it should be covered and left to dry approximately 24 to 48 hours later. Once the time is up the mould can be carefully removed from the set material and it can be painted or placed in the garden to enhance the area it surrounds.
