| Erosion is a natural occurrence with is the breaking down of soil particles which cause the soil to shift, disappear and break down into nothing. Erosion is generally caused by mother natures wind, rainfall and snowfall. Erosion can affect all areas of the world from river beds, the ocean, desert areas, residential properties, farm properties and just about everywhere else on the planet where there is soil. However erosion can be controlled to our advantage. With many studies being done on the reasons for erosion more and more erosion control products are being made to assist with this common problem. There are very many different types of erosion control products available to use today. Enviro-Matting
| Enviro-matting is an erosion control product which is a biodegradable blanket which helps stabilizes disturbed soil until and when complete stabilization has occurred. It is made of wood and wool fibres and also contains polypropylene mesh which is harmless to our environment. The erosion control product degrades with lots of exposure to UV light and weather permitting conditions. They generally last up to 2 years. They will protect topsoil from rainfall impact, moisture loss due to evaporation and extreme temperatures. They can be used on all types of erosion problem areas both large and small. |

Fibre Mulch Matting

Fibre mulch matting is the most common erosion control product with is used on small areas around residential homes. They are made of fibre and mulch components with bind together to form a sheet. They can be placed onto all types of eroded soil and are especially suited for garden areas because they can be cut to suit a specific size. Fibre mulch matting will prevent the harsh impact of heavy rainfall whilst the mat offers the soil extra nutrients which help it to be a strong structure for the rest of the garden. |
Gabion Baskets
| Gabion baskets are mainly used on farming and large properties. They are also seen to be used on river beds and ocean fronts to prevent erosion. This type of erosion control product consists of a mesh wired basket which contains heavy limestone rocks and boulders. The invention of the gabion baskets helped prevent severe erosion to rivers and dams. Gabion baskets can also be used in gullies and steep and sloped properties. They are placed in the eroded area and they prevent slopes from rainfall which normal results in runoffs and severe erosion. Gabion baskets can be easily made by do it yourself or they can be purchased from your local erosion control product retailer. |
