Landscape Maintenance - Chemical Fertilizers

About Chemical Fertilizers

Introduction

A chemical fertilizer is used in the gardening industry to provide nutrients and compounds which help promote growth to plant, flowers and trees. There are 3 major plant nutrients which consist of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. They also contain the 3 secondary plant nutrients which are; calcium, sulphur and magnesium. Other chemicals which are generally included in chemical fertilizers include the following; chlorine, iron, zinc and copper.
Garden

Chemical fertilizer is added to soil, plant roots and turf areas. It provides plant nutrients to plants and areas which are lacking or which have been affected by harvesting, grazing or lack of watering. Physical processes such as building and construction generally affect large turf and garden areas, chemical fertilizers can help restore the affected site back to its original state.

Applications

Chemical fertilizer can be used on a variety of different applications ranging from residential use to commercial and farming purposes. It should only be used to improve plant growth and providing needed nutrients to the landscaping and gardening.

On residential landscaping chemical fertilizer should be carefully used as to much solution may penetrate through to the water supply. But in fact chemical fertilizer breaks down in the soil quite quickly and therefore may not reach the ground water supply. It can be used in gardens which are lacking water due to water restrictions to add needed nutritional elements to the plants to growth healthy and properly.

Chemical fertilizer can also be applied to farming and agriculture properties to give crops a boost during the warmer and colder months of the year. It can also be used to reduce the affect of frost drought stricken regions.

How to Apply

Chemical fertilizers
Chemical fertilizer is a liquid compound and therefore should be applied by a spray hose or industrial equipment. It can also be purchased in a granular form and can be placed on top of soil quite easily. For residential applications homeowners are able to purchase ready made packaging containing the fertilizer and simply just attach it to a garden hose and begin to spray in the required areas.

Larger applications may need heavy machinery to spray the solution from fertilizer equipment. Tractors can apply chemical fertilizer efficiently if the right equipment is available. Chemical fertilizer should not be used if the ground is water logged. The chemical fertilizer will not soak into the ground and soil as it should it will begin to runoff into other areas which may cause harm. So it is very important to access the ground and soil condition before you begin to apply chemical fertilizer.

Chemical Fertilizer Storage

Store Chemicals Securely Once your landscaping or farming property has been fertilized it is required that the chemical fertilizer is storage accordingly. Green house gas and nitrous oxide can be emitted into the air if the fertilizer is not stored in the correct place. Chemical should be locked away in a garden shed away and out of reach of children. Ensure that the lids of the chemical are completely shut and tight and store it in a dark corner. Chemical fertilizer should not be in direct sunlight and therefore should not be left outside or in open space.
