The Purpose of Pond Liner
 |
Pond liner is defined as a geo-textile which is purely used for water retention for the lining of garden ponds. Pond liners are generally manufactured in large rolls out of a variety of different materials. They need to be protected from sharp or harmful objects on the ground where the pond will be installing so that the objects will not puncture the liner and cause leaks in the pond. The pond liner is installed onto the excavated site first. If the material is cut to fit the pond size then the joints can be joined together by using special types of glue. The edging of the pond liner can be concreted or brick on top of to ensure that the liner is unseen once the pond is installed. |
Pond Liner Materials
| There is a wide variety of pond liner materials used nowadays which are very flexible and versatile. EPDM is the most popular and preferred choice for pond liners because it is an inexpensive material and it available just from all hardware or pond specialist shops. The EPDM can be customized large or small to suit the requirements of the pond. The thickness of the EPDM ranges from .75mm to 1.0mm. PVC is another durable and popular pond liner material which is available in .5mm to .8mm thickness. PVC is more suited to smaller garden ponds which are used on residential properties. |

Some types of rubber are also popular pond liners which are used frequently for more commercial and large ponds. It is a harder material to work with but is expected to work for years. Rubber is available in a wide variety of thickness and it is more resistant to ground problems and water leaks. There is another form of pond lining which is very new to the market and highly expensive and it is known to be a polyuria spray based coating.
Pond Liner Underlay
 |
When construction of a pond begins it is recommended that before the pond liner is installed that an underlay is laid down firstly. The underlay is also a geo-textile material which creates a barrier between the ground and pond liner. It will protect the pond liner from sharper object in the ground such as; rocks or broken glass which is unseen. Underlay is available in meter lengths and it is an inexpensive material which can be bought from pond supplier’s specialist. |
