About Water Fountains

Introduction

Three Tier Fountain When you think landscaping you automatically picture flowers beds, trees and a well-kept lawn. But not all elements in your landscape have to be natural. Adding a manmade piece, like a water fountain, can add a special touch to any outdoor, and even indoor, living space. Water fountains are an easy way to embellish a landscape by combining the natural feel of a waterfall with the artistic attractiveness of a sculpture.

Benefits of Water Fountains

Water fountains are renowned for their beauty and relaxation benefits which are explained below.

  • Beauty: No matter how big or small your garden is water fountains can be used to create a focal point with a dramatic, yet aesthetic, effect. They come in different materials, shapes and sizes to suit your taste and complement your garden.
  • Noise reduction: The tranquil trickling and splashes of water block and replace outdoor noise and help focus the mind.
  • Stress relief: It has been proven that the sound of running water reduces stress levels and creates a peaceful environment. Water fountains produce negative ions (tiny electrically charged particles) that help you feel relaxed and alert. The negative ions also remove impurities from the air, alleviate allergies and decrease air pollution.
  • Wildlife: Water fountains attract animals like birds and butterflies making your backyard feel like a natural haven.

Types of Outdoor Water Fountains

It’s important to know that there are two types of outdoor water fountains: spray fountains and statuary fountains.

Spray Fountains

Spray Fountain Spray fountains, also known as jet fountains, are the most basic type of outdoor fountains. They normally come with a pump, float, spray nozzle, power cord and control panel with timer. Some models come with several interchangeable spray nozzles that create an incredible variety of ornamental spray patterns. Colored lights can be used to highlight and enhance the spray fountain at night. You can also find water fountains that come solar powered and are activated by direct sunlight, so there’s no need to worry about cords or timers.

Statuary Fountains

Statuary fountains come in many styles for any taste or budget. Birdbath, modern, Zen, European, Greco-Roman, religious, landscape, animal and architectural styles are to name but a few. The majorities are made of cast stone and entail great detail.

Choosing a Water Fountain

Garden fountain. Before you make your decision as to which water fountain you would like for your home, business or outdoor space, there are a few things you need to consider. Firstly assess the amount of space available. Of course, larger landscapes allow for larger sized water fountains and placing them in the center can create a nice focal point. One should also consider the style of the garden. Is it modern, classical or just plain natural? Look for materials such as stainless steel and acrylic for a modern feel, or slate, copper and river rocks for a casual and natural design. Lastly, consider how busy the space is where you intend to place the water fountain. Ones with a larger depth or diameter would look better in open areas with plenty of space instead of being crammed with other objects.

Indoor Water Fountains

For those with limited outdoor space or none at all, the solution is to buy an indoor water fountain. With the same benefits of an outdoor fountain, indoor water fountains bring the soothing tranquillity of a water fountain into your home or office. Choices vary, for example there’s the indoor wall fountain or there’s the option of a smaller table top fountain. In the end, you are bound to find a water fountain to fit your taste and budget.
